Welcome to Nashville, Asshole!

Welcome to Nashville Tennessee
Music City USA
Then we became the “It City” and the money rolled in
Our Southern charm slowly slipped away

Everybody sorta used to know everyone
They called us the “little big town”
Now y’all might have more money than the Vatican, honey
But quit calling my home a “tear-down”

The kind of folks I used to know
Can’t afford to live here anymore
The very people that made up this town’s soul
Now it’s all out of state plates and daddy’s money dreams
Laying on the horn soon as the light turns green
But by all means
Welcome to Nashville, asshole

There was one hot chicken place (Prince’s!)
For nigh on 100 years or more
Then there were like two til the 2010s
Now there’s three hundred and four

They’re tearing down my memories again
And putting in another high rise
The locals all bitch, then they sell and get rich
Since they never had a crack at wise

The kind of folks I used to know
Can’t afford to live here anymore
The very people that made up this town’s soul
Now there’s a lot of east coast bluster and California dreams
Laying on the horn soon as the light turns green
But by all means
Welcome to Nashville, asshole

Deep in a pothole, after a rain
They finally found Amelia Earhart’s plane
And nobody even gave a damn
It was just another Nashville traffic jam

The kind of folks I used to know
Can’t afford to live here anymore
The very people that made up this town’s soul
Now we’ve got Michigan rust and real estate schemes
Laying on the horn soon as the light turns green
But by all means
Welcome to Nashville, asshole

But by all means
Welcome to Nashville, asshole

Asshole!
