Hand-Painted Portuguese Punch Bowl

Took my granny to the antique mall
Rows of old things she could still recall
Then she spied something high on the back wall
She couldn’t live without it
It didn’t do much for me, but that didn’t matter
A fragile thing, like her, that a fall might shatter
So I hollered at the clerk and he ran to get a ladder
Granny, she was all about it
It was a hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Seventeen cups and a big glass ladle
A hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Someday we’ll throw us a party
Since she got it she’s moved at least eighteen times
Back and forth across at least nine state lines
She ain’t thrown one party, but Lord, how it shines!
And she ain’t gonna live without it
She loves that hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Seventeen cups and a big glass ladle
A hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Someday we’ll throw us a party
Well, the years rolled on, and the days got gone
And that party never got started
’Til one day we found we were gathered ‘round
To honor our dearly departed
Yep.
Granny up and died, she hung up her fiddle
Pardon me if I tear up just a little
At the wake, whatcha think was on a table in the middle?
We got us a keg! I don’t know what you was thinkin’!
But I got a boxed up hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Seventeen cups and a big glass ladle
A hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Someday we’ll throw us a party
I got a boxed up hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Seventeen cups and a big glass ladle
A hand-painted Portuguese punch bowl
Someday we’ll throw us a party
