It just keeps getting better in Texas

Another great run in Texas is behind me. This one was special. Not only were there multiple shows with my dad, I met some great new people, saw old friends, and had a great time. It was really hard to leave.

I heart Texas. Bad.

I will be back in early December and in March of 2010. Stay tuned!

Thanks to everyone involved on this run. Everyone.

And keep the pressure on your local Texas/Americana stations. Ask them for some Jubal Lee Young! :)

Best,

JLY

Hey... it's 2009. How about a little news?

So, it’s been a while. Hi.

I’ve been wrapped up in life a lot, the ups and the downs of human interaction and the usual trials and tribulations – and love and joy, of course – of raising a rambunctious toddler. I have also actually been working behind the scenes with some of the folks I am lucky enough to have in my corner to get some things done. And I thought maybe a little news was in order.

First up is a new CD. I’m going back to the studio with Thomm Jutz again in early to mid March. We’re not totally nailed down on the songs yet, but we’re getting there. I might even finish up another one or two between now and then. Either way, there is a basic shape and basic body of work that looks to be the next CD. It will include several new songs, a choice cover or two, and possibly a couple of older songs that just didn’t make it onto the last two CDs. I’m pretty fired up about it and ready to go.

We’ll be recording that at Thomm’s, just outside Nashville. Pat McInerny and some of the usual suspects will be back, too, of course. It’ll be a reunion of sorts, I suspect. We’ll have a good time and hopefully capture some moments.

Texas, Texas, Texas! Thanks to some awesome friends in the Lone Star State, I’m coming back through in rapid fire fashion. There are still dates being added to both runs as we speak, but stay tuned to the concert calendar at www.juballeeyoung.com or the myspace list at www.myspace.com/juballee for details about JLY playing near you in Texas during the first week of April and the first week of May. Some of the highlights include April 2 in Conroe with Carrie Rodriguez, and May 9 opening for Guy Clark at the Crighton Theater in Conroe. I love me some Texas!

I’m hoping to make it back to Europe and the UK in 2009, but nothing is planned at the moment. I’ll keep you posted.

That’s the concise version anyway.

Be well. Be good.

Jubal Lee Young

Nashville CD Release Party

Hey, folks.

Back from the tour in Holland, Spain, England, Scotland, and Ireland with Justin Townes Earle. We had a good time, met lots of nice folks, and in general delivered the goods. Thanks to everyone involved, from the booking to the promotion to the attendees. You're all the best and I look forward to seeing you next time.

There are a string of Nashville shows coming up. The first is this coming Thursday, October 25 at Douglas Corner - 2106-A 8th Avenue, South
Nashville, TN 37204 (615) 298-1688.

Jon Byrd will open the evening with Byrd's Auto Parts and then I'll be doing a set with the band. I'll have the new CD there available at a discount. Get one for just $10. Best $10 you'll spend all year! :)

Don't miss this one! It's also doubling as my "Farewell Nashville" show since, it certainly seems as though I'm leaving it. I'll be back regularly though, so expect me to still see you around from time to time.

Other Nashville dates include November 1 at Douglas Corner where I will be a part once again of the Sprit of the Outlaws show. Come on out!

Finally, I'll be at the early show at the Bluebird ITR with Irene Kelly, Tommy Womack and Kevin Gordon. Should be a great evening! That's on November 3rd at 6:30.

Thanks for your support and attendance. You all rule... every one of you.

All the best!

Howdy from Holland!

Justin Townes Earle and I are on tour together and having a blast. We're in Holland, where we've been for a week, traveling around and playing for these fine folks. We're off to Spain on October 3 and we'll wrap things up in the UK.

Thanks to everyone who has come out to see us, and thanks in advance to all who will on the rest of the tour.

I certainly hope you enjoyed it and, if you did, as my friend Brian says:

"TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT ME!"

All the best!

Nashville, Mark Your Calendars for October 25th!

October 25, 2007 at Douglas Corner Cafe in Nashville, TN will be the "Jubal Lee Young" CD release party. Jon Byrd is bringing Byrd's Auto Parts to help me make it a good time for all that attend. I will get up with the full band and play a set after Jon.

It's going to be  a $5 cover, copies of "Jubal Lee Young" will be available for $10 (normally $15!), and it will be a great night of music, friends, and a general good time.

Why so far off? Well, I'm going to Europe for a month and I wanted plenty of time to prepare, so rather than do it before I go, I thought I would do it when I get back.

The timing of this will also allow me to combine the CD release party with a "Farewell, Nashville!" party.  Yep,  I'm leaving.  My grandfather, Mr. Marvin R. Newkirk of Oklahoma passed away on  July 15. For many reasons, I'm going to take the wife and daughter to live closer to the family. It's just going to be beneficial for everyone and it's just something we need to do for now.

The difference here is that I was raised in Nashville. My parents moved to the area when I was less than 2 years old for their own careers. I'm not among the droves of folks that moved here for music. I'm not an appointment book sort of songwriter and I'm damn sure not a hat act. As convenient as Nashville is for recording, musicians, venues, industry professionals, etc, I don't see my living here as necessary since I'm really just out doing my own meager Americana thing.

The business is changing. Folks like me can get a lot done with some persistence, a good booking agent or two, maybe a publicist or a manager and, yes... the internet. I feel like I can operate pretty much anywhere and get things taken care of.

Besides,  the old dad still has a place here and I have dozens of couches and guest rooms that will be available to me for my frequent visits back to town for both social and business visits. It's not like I'm going to be a stranger. In fact, I hide out most of the time when I'm in town anyway. You'll probably see more of me like this, because when I am in town, I'll make the most of it and actually go out and do stuff.

So, it's been real, I may be back someday, but for now, come see me off on October 25th at Douglas Corner. And get a copy of the new CD, "Jubal Lee Young"! You won't regret either decision!

 All the best!

JLY

Dog days shows

Chattanooga/North Georgia folks, come on out to Music on the Square (101 E. Patton St, LaFayette, Georgia) on Saturday August 25 where JLY will be playing a full night of music with guitarist/producer Thomm Jutz.

Sunday evening, August 26, is Jon Byrd's benefit for his old high school's music department. This year it will be at the Foo Bar on Gallatin Road in East Nashville. (Just past the Auto-Deisel College on your left if you're headed away from downtown Nashville.)  JLY and Thomm Jutz play during the 7:00 hour. Lot's of special guests between 6 and 10 and then Jon Byrd and his band take the stage at 10 PM.

It's a great cause and it's sure to be a great night of music.

"Jubal Lee Young" is available on CD Baby

Howdy, people!

CD Baby emailed me over the weekend and let me know that they are
ready to rock with the new CD, "Jubal Lee Young".

Here's the link: http://cdbaby.com/cd/juballeeyoung

I know some folks are not too keen on PayPal. There are certainly
horror stories out there. If you are among those who are anti-PayPal
and you still want the new CD, CD Baby is another option.

Over the next few weeks, it should also start to show up on several
digital download sites including iTunes.

If you are into PayPal, you can still order it directly from me
through the web site for now, but it is possible that I may have to
discontinue that if the volume of orders gets too intense.

Of course, the best way to buy a Jubal Lee Young CD is to come to a
live show and buy it in person though! :)

All the best,

JLY

THE NEW PHONE BOOKS ARE HERE! THE NEW PHONE BOOKS ARE HERE!

OK not really.

But I did get the new CDs.

"Jubal Lee Young" is now available! Please visit the "STORE" page on this site for PayPal ordering. That's the current availability. It's Ani D. time over here. You order, I send it to you. Right out of my living room. Talk about grassroots!

In the next few weeks, you should see it become available on CD Baby, iTunes, Rhapsody, etc. I will keep you posted here or through the mailing list, which you can sign up for on just about every single page on this web site.

Thank you to everyone who preordered, they are on their way to you!

Help spread the word!

Thanks!!

JLY

PS If you don't get the reference of the title of this entry, you have to go rent "The Jerk" like... right now! :)

Preorder "Jubal Lee Young" today!

Well, people. I warned you the day would come when I would actually release this thing. It's upon us.

My sophomore effort, as they say. Once again produced by Thomm Jutz , we recorded this CD last July and August. The players include, well, there's me, of course, playing acoustic guitar, harmonica and singing these tonal concoctions; Thomm plays the guitar quite monsterously on this CD. He also arranged the strings and played keyboards and engineered and mixed it; Pat McInerney handled the drums and percussion; Dave Roe on bass; Fats Kaplin plays fiddle, mandolin and pedal steel as well. Brent Moyer contributes trumpet on one track and Peter Cronin sang a little harmony with me on another.

I'm proud of this record. Whether people ultimately love it or hate it, it's definitely about 98% the exact record I set out to make. The 2% is just because, you know, these things take on a life of their own here and there when it comes down to the actual recording process... happy accidents, changes in plan and whatnot.

You can preview the whole thing on the "Music " page and the "Store " page on  this very web site.

Preorders are through PayPal.

Very soon this CD will also be available on CD Baby and many of the digital download services such as iTunes and Rhapsody.

All preorders will ship out by June 12.

Thanks for your support and let's, uhhh... let's keep Austin weird and Nashville guessing.

All the best,

JLY
